Today In History; Kwame Nkrumah was overthrown in a coup exactly 54 years ago
Today marks exactly 54 year of the coup that toppled the government of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
On this day, 24th of February 1966, Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was overthrown by a Military coup.
The coup led by Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka and Afrifa was named “Operation Cold Chop” ended the reign of Kwame Nkrumah on the 24th February 1966.
The coup was reportedly backed by The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States of America.
