The Story Of Geeman; How Ghana’s Popstar Was Sentenced To Death For Murder In The Early 1990s

Nana Kwasi Agyemang popularly Geeman was a Ghanaian dance champion in the 1970s.

He styled was a replica of the style that brought Michael Jackson to global attention.

Geeman won the best dancer of the world later and went on global tour with his MIchael Jackson dance and music style.

One day, Abeiku Nyame alias Jaga Pee visited his friend Geeman who was a expecting a visitor, Nadia, a lady friend who wanted to be an actress.

They were three at Geeman’s house. Jaga Pee, Geeman himself and another lady called Vic.

Nadia arrived in a Taxi and told Geeman that the fare charged was 3000 Cedis, today’s 30pesewas.

The driver disagreed and argued that the agreed fare was rather 4000 and not 3000 Cedis.

Geeman insisted that he’d pay 3000 and threw the money into the taxi.

The driver took off and made a return a few minutes later. This time, he came to collect the sand under the footprint of Gemann for ritual purpose.

This infuriated Geeman who went to his room, returned with a pistol and went straight to where his friends and driver were standing.

At this time, Jaga Pee was holding the driver to prevent him from leaving.

The Pop star, Geeman opened fire on the taxi driver who died on the spot.

The four people at the murder scene, ,Vic, Jaga Pee, Nadia and Geeman were arrested.

After a couple of years at the court, Nadia and Vic were acquitted and discharged.

Jagapee was sentenced to life imprisonment for abetment to crime and the main culprit and the prime suspect Geeman was given a death sentence.

Jaga Pee got his sentence reduced to 2 years on appeal but Geeman’s sentenced remained intact.

From the time Geeman was given a death sentence, no President have signed for convicts to be executed so he remained in prison awaiting the day a President would sign for convicts to be executed.

In the year 2009 before President Kufuor would live office for President Atta Mills, luck smiled on Geeman as he was included on the list of prisoners on the Presidential pardon list.

Geeman is now an Evangelist.
