Nollywood legend John Okafor, aka Mr. Ibu, laid To Rest In His Hometown

Today, veteran Nollywood actor John Okafor, better known by his stage as Mr. Ibu, was buried in his hometown.

At the age of sixty-two, the actor finally went to heaven in March following a protracted illness.

Fans and several members of the Nollywood film industry attended the actor’s funeral to offer their final condolences.

A video that surfaced online showed the pallbearers carrying and displaying his casket, and several mourners followed them to the gravesite.

Two decades ago, Okafor gained notoriety for his role in the movie Mr. Ibu, which gave rise to his lifelong nickname.
It is still recognized as one of the greatest comedic roles ever played by a Nigerian actor.

He went on to appear in over 200 Nollywood productions, such as the Mr. Ibu sequels, Keziah, and 9 Wives.

In her homage, actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie remarked, “Rest well, sir.” The actress was described as a “beloved” person who “brought laughter to many” by law professor and former UN rapporteur Joy Ezeilo.

Hannatu Musawa, Nigeria’s Minister of Culture, called him a household name who had brought joy to families all during his career.
