Former President Kufuor’s son Edward Kufour Joins Ayawaso West Wuogon Race

Business mogul, Actor and politician, Edward Agyekum Kufour, has picked a form to contest in the primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, in the Greater-Accra Region.

The second son of ex-president HE J. A. Kufour is seeking the mandate to contest for the vacant position for his party, the same constituency actor John Dumelo was earlier vying for until he redrew his decision.

Mr. Kufour who doubles as a minister of the gospel is emulating his father who served as the 2nd president of the 4th Republic from 2001 – 2008 and contributed to the development of Ghana through his many social intervention programs including the free and compulsory basic education, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). free maternal care, school feeding and many more.

Having shown little or no interest in politics over the years, the renowned actor that it was time to step out of the shadows and bring on board his knowledge and experiences.

“Through my experiences in life I have had different platforms to address issues that matter in society and up until I have always taken the back seat. But I have that the best way to bring about change is by stepping up because if you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem. There is no middle ground. So based on my own decision and the support and encouragement from my peers (the youth) I decided it was time to stop hiding and step up.

This is not the first time an ex-president”s child has contested for such position. Already, daughters of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and J. J Rawlings, Samia Yaaba Nkrumah and Dr. Zenator Rawlings respectively have set the pace for others to follow.

The Ayawaso West Wuogon seat has become vacant following the sadden demise of the NPP MP, Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko.
