Dan Finch was a well-known master potter who recently passed away at the age of 76, leaving behind his wife Amy Finch. Finch’s pottery was renowned and displayed in numerous exhibitions across the United States, including Baltimore, New Orleans, and North Carolina. His yearly Dan Finch Potter’s Market drew collectors from Raleigh and Charlotte.

Finch taught special workshops at Wilson, North Carolina’s Fike High School and Nash Community College. He was a member of the advisory council for the North Carolina State Fair and was the president of the fair’s Village of Yesteryear. He was also a Star of the Twin County Museum. Newspapers and magazines such as Clay Times and Our State published articles about him.

Finch’s Potter’s Market was an annual event that showcased finely produced ceramics made by Finch’s pupils and allied artists. The market was originally held at Finch’s studio and blueberry farm outside of Bailey but was later moved to downtown Spring Hope. Collectors traveled from as far as Raleigh and Charlotte to buy items from Finch.

Dan Finch is survived by his wife Amy Finch, who was the manager and bookkeeper for his nursery and studio businesses. Finch’s grandfather, Jack Finch, was an environmental conservationist who was honored for his work to conserve bluebirds on the first Earth Day in 1970.
