Who is Connor Sturgeon? Family, High school, Instagram Post, Basketball

Connor Sturgeon, a former star athlete in high school, killed five and injured eight at the Old National Bank in downtown Louisville, Kentucky.

Sturgeon, an employee at the bank, live-streamed the rampage on Instagram before police shot him dead on Monday.

Sturgeon’s High School Life

Sturgeon was an all-round athlete during his freshman year at Floyd Central High School in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, playing basketball, football, and running track.

His father was the head coach of the team, and he was known as “Mr. Floyd Central”. However, due to multiple concussions he suffered while playing football, he wore a helmet while playing basketball.

Possible Link Between Concussions and Violence

Sturgeon’s former classmate couldn’t help but think about his high school injuries and link them to other incidents where athletes who have suffered concussions have gone on to harm themselves or others.

Recent research has linked football players and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy [CTE], a degenerative brain disease caused by repeated blows to the head. Those diagnosed with CTE usually have impaired thinking and memory and are prone to aggression, mood swings, depression, and paranoia.

Sturgeon’s Life after High School

After graduating from high school, Sturgeon went on to study finance at the University of Alabama, where he earned his master of science in finance in 2020

He worked as a summer intern for the Old National Bank for three consecutive years, eventually joining as a commercial development professional in 2021 and a full-time associate and portfolio banker last year, according to his LinkedIn account.

Sturgeon’s Alleged Final Posts

Screengrabs of Sturgeon’s Instagram account show him appearing unsteady in the hours leading up to the shooting.

His alleged final posts included meme photos with captions suggesting he knew what he had to do but didn’t know if he had the strength to do it, and that he could burn the whole place down. His last post allegedly read: “They won’t listen to words or protests. Let’s see if they hear this.”

Motive and Victims

Police are still working to determine a motive for the deadly shooting. Sturgeon had learned he was about to be fired from the bank, according to CNN, and he left a note for his parents and a friend explaining his intention to go and shoot up the bank.

Among the victims were high-ranking members of the Louisville bank branch, including senior vice presidents, a market executive, a commercial loan specialist, and an executive administrative officer.
