Change “Our Forefathers” From The National Pledge Or Include “Foremothers” For Gender Balance - Adwoa Safo
Adwoa Safo has called on parliament to change the “our forefathers” part of the Ghana National Pledge for gender balance.
Member of parliament for Dome Kwabenya has called on the country to change the “our forefathers” part of the Ghana National Pledge because it’s gender bias.
On the floor of parliament today, she questioned the part of the National Pledge which references “our forefathers” indicating it’s gender bias.
Sarah Adwoa Safo raises concerns regarding the wording of some portions of the National Pledge.
According to her, the use of ‘forefathers’ is gender-biased, and she calls for ‘foremothers’ to be included to achieve equality.

The former Minister of Gender and Social Protection argued that if the “our forefathers” can’t be changed then “foremothers” must be included to cater for women.
