Video: Ben Ephson in tears as he recounts how Mawuli Goka was given Kyereme Djan’s flesh to eat during Rawlings’ Military regime
Veteran Ghanaian Journalist, Ben Ephson shed tears as he recounted his darkest day in his journalism career.
The Chief Editor of the Daily Dispatch Newspaper recounted some of the horrors he witnessed during the Rawlings rule.
Speaking on Class Fm, Ben Ephson narrated a story on the 1986 execution of Mawuli Goka, Kyereme Djan and 5 others.
He said when the two were captured and put to trail for a failed coup attempt he was then a writer for the African Watch Newspaper.
At the break time of the military trial, the accused were allowed to chat with their relatives so he had the chance to chat with his senior at Accra Academy, Mawuli Goka who told him they’ve been tortured to pulp.
Ben Ephson then asked permission from the prison wardens to use to washroom. That was when Kyeremeh Djan removed his shirt to show him how his back was cut and given to Mawuli Goka to chew.
The victims of the firing squad execution in 1986 were Godwin Mawuli Kofi Dra- Goka, Yaw Brefi Berko, Kyereme Djan, Samuel Boamah Panyin, Ahmed Braimah Kankani, Warrant Officer 1st Class Samuel Charles Lartey Aforo, and Pvt. Charles Koomson.
