An elderly Ghanaian woman using only two lightbulbs is asked to pay GH₵4,000 for her electricity bill
An elderly Ghanaian woman is shown in a video that has gone viral on the internet lamenting the hefty electricity bill she received from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The elderly woman was heard in the video explaining how the ECG charged her GH₵4,000, which needed to be paid in full within a month.
Speaking in Ewe, an indigenous language of Ghana spoken mostly in the Volta and Oti regions, the woman says that her home is devoid of any electrical appliances or devices, which accounts for the high price.
The elderly woman who wished to remain anonymous emphasized that her home’s ECG bill was excessive because she used less than three light bulbs for that month.
She continued, pleading inconsolably with the Ghanaian government and the ECG officials for assistance with the peculiar bill she had been sent.
Upon viewing the video, online users voiced their worries about the woman’s hefty ECG costs and said that they were also affected by her circumstances.
Other people are moved by the elderly woman’s willingness to accept their help in paying her debts.
