80 people arrested in Northern Nigeria for eating during Ramadan fast
80 Nigerians have been arrested in the Northern State of Kano for eating during Ramadan fast.
The Islamic sharia police in Kano detained 80 people for eating in public during fasting hours.
According to the Kano Islamic police, known as Hisbah, they arrested the 80 people in different locations in the state.
Kano State, a predominately Muslim area in Northern Nigeria is one of few states to have reintroduce Sharia Law in 2000.
Speaking to BBC, the public relation officer of the Kano Hisbah, Adamu Yahaya said the arrest is limited to only Muslims as non-Muslims aren’t targeted.
