59-year-old father and 2 sons sentenced to 60 years in prison for robbery
A family of 3 have been sentenced to 60 years in prison for Robbery by the Bekwai Magistrate Court.
The 3, comprising of 59-year-old father Omar Sanda alias Bombay, 28-year-old son Jibor Ali and 23 year old Saado Ali were arrested by a police patrol team at Jacobu near Hemang in the Ashanti Region on May 10, 2021.
These Highway men where on their usual night robbery duty when they mistook a police patron car for a commercial car.
They hid in the bush with guns when they saw the car approaching in the dark waiting to pounce on it.
When the car got near to their hideout, they realized it was a police car and fired shots at the car before running.
Unfortunately for the them, the police were armed so they followed them and it turned into gun battle leading to the demise of one of the armed robbers.
The 3 who survived were arrested and arraigned before court.
The court proceedings came to an end on June 10, 2020 with the judge giving each of them 20 years sentence for attempted robbery and illegal possession of fire arms.
